Fish Spotting

catfish Fish Spotting
I had mentioned in an earlier post that I thought that fish were being blocked from coming downstream in Cache creek below the town of Madison. That still may be the case, but I did spot some fish moving quickly upstream recently. I really couldn’t positively identify what they were, but I think that they may have  been catfish.

Little Jack

The veggie garden is not even planted yet, but the rabbits are already showing up. This little jack rabbit is one of the first, however there is also a multitude of cottontails ready to dine on those first tender green little morsels.

Ishi the Last Yahi

Ishi blog Ishi the Last Yahi
Years ago I read a book about Ishi the last Yahi indian in California. It’s a tragic but very moving story. I always think about him when I’m in the California foothills. Then a while ago I was driving through the foothills in Oroville and inadvertently came upon this marker where he was discovered in 1911.

Robins Attack!

robinsolives blog Robins Attack!

There is a large olive tree at Sarge’s Cache Creek Ranch planted years ago by my friend Ranse. The tree had an abundance of olives; that is until the other day, when a massive flock of migratory robins flew in and proceded to feast upon said produce.
So much for this year’s plan to process some olive oil.

Cooper’s Hawk on the Hunt

I regularly drive up Highway 70 above Marysville,CA.  It’s orchard country, and I often catch glimpses of a Cooper’s Hawk swooping low through the trees in pursuit of some small bird that is frantically trying to evade those deadly talons.cooperorchard new blog 2 550x540 Coopers Hawk on the Hunt
