so far, so good....
The Cilantro is coming up nicely; I’m hoping that it does better this year. Most years it has been a problem child. I don’t think that it likes the direct sun; it should get more shade here, and I’ll keep it well watered.

All the cherries having just been harvested; I was taking the netting off of the tree when I encountered this intruder, a Western Diamondback rattlesnake, who had gotten himself entangled in the bird net. For safety sake I quickly dispatched him, but now I’m looking for his relatives.

Sarge’s tomatoes and “other stuff” seem to be doing quite well in spite of the unseasonable weather that we’ve had recently!

The Straw Bed
This year we’re trying a different strategy for weed and moisture control; we’ve laid down a bed of wheat straw over the entire area. Now if the north wind doesn’t blow it all away, I think that we are set. I’ve watered it down and created some wind protection, so I think that it should work.
The new garden contains several varieties of peppers, cucumbers, and squash; plus a whole bunch of different kinds of tomatoes! Most of the tomatoes were started from seed in the greenhouse, and they seem fairly hardy. Here’s hoping for a bountiful crop.

We’re ready to plant the spring vegetable garden!
I have high hopes for a bountiful crop; even thought it really only gets good mid-day sun. Perhaps my friend will bring us good fortune.
