Fish Spotting

catfish Fish Spotting
I had mentioned in an earlier post that I thought that fish were being blocked from coming downstream in Cache creek below the town of Madison. That still may be the case, but I did spot some fish moving quickly upstream recently. I really couldn’t positively identify what they were, but I think that they may have  been catfish.

Wood Ducks

I’ve been getting glimpses of some Wood Ducks flying near Cache Creek; but this is the first time that I’ve caught them perched. Earlier this year we put up a nesting box; I’m hoping that this pair has found it.

Just a photo of one of the Valley Quail that hang out at Sarge’s Cache Creek ranch. There is quite a large covey of them now, and Sarge is very protective of them.

The Straw Bed

This year we’re trying a different strategy for weed and moisture control; we’ve laid down a bed of wheat straw over the entire area. Now if the north wind doesn’t blow it all away, I think that we are set. I’ve watered it down and created some wind protection, so I think that it should work.

The new garden contains several varieties of peppers, cucumbers, and squash; plus a whole bunch of different kinds of tomatoes! Most of the tomatoes were started from seed in the greenhouse, and they seem fairly hardy. Here’s hoping for a bountiful crop.

Barn Owl

This little Barn Owl appeared to be out of his element. We thought that he was injured, but he seemed to be able to fly well enough.
Beautiful raptor! You don’t get to see them out in the light very often.
