Pipevine Swallowtail Butterfly

Very common in the far northern part of the Sacramento Valley around Redding, Ca; I recently took this photo of the swallowtail down here near Putah Creek.

This is a flowering plant that is referred to locally as Indian Tobacco. I have no idea as to its addictive properties, however the the hummingbirds love it.

The tamarisk is flowering along Cache creek, and is really spectacular! It’s considered a harmful invasive species by some, but I like it.
